ARIZONA PRINCE
Arizona Prince, nicknamed ‘Yellow Boy,’ was inspired by patterns
of the Southwest evident in Mexican talavera pottery and Indian baskets and
weavings. The head of the pony was painted first, which set the tone for the
rest of the painting. An intricate design was first created on paper, but once
work began on the actual sculpture, I let the creativity of the process dictate
the final
product. The horse is the most magnificent symbol of the West and my goal was to
convey the regal nature of this animal in the painting.
