Pre-Columbian Dreams

"Pre-Columbian Dreams" is meticulously and traditionally hand painted using
symbolism and iconography of ancient Mesoamerican writing systems found
throughout the ancient world. It shows the evolution of pre-conquest to
post-conquest symbols that represent a unique intellectual achievement in this
part of the new world. Using these symbols her painted pony tells the bitter
sweet event of the first horse, in history, to step foot on America. It is said
that this horse was a god, and bringer of peace to the indigenous people. It is
this horse decorated with jade eyes and a heart of gold, and adorned with
ceremonial stones that holds the secrets and stories of the past.
It is detailed with approximately 300 hours of tender love and care. Tanya
explains that her paintings are a spiritual reflection of who she is and her
community around her. It is inspired by stories of strength, stories of the
Southwest, her resilient Mexican-American culture, and the ornate style of her
ancestors and artisans of the Mayan and Azteca/Tolteca tribes.
